How to change strings on a Modern Fender Style Guitar.
Why is it that other people's guitars stay in tune, and yours doesn't? How ccome your strings keep going out of tune after you've changed them?
In this video, I'll breakdown the exact way I change my strings. This is a common method used by luthiers that is guaranteed to keep your strings and prevent breakage and unwanted noise, like pinging in the nut. I never ever ever break strings (knock on wood), my guitars stay in tune, and I never stab myself with stray strings. I want to pass on the tips and secrets I've been using for a long time.
Included here are lots of secrets like the hot breath treatment (the least abrasive way of cleaning your neck), fret erasers (which are an easy way to make your frets feel like they just got polished), and my personal recommendation for how I maintain my tuning even after immediately changing strings. That means I can change strings, and immediately go and do a gig or a recording session and not worry if my guitar will stay in tune. One small note - you add a little more string to the winds on strings 3 & 4 if you don't have a string tree on those strings. That will allow you to increase the angle over the nut on these strings. I tried to use lots of close ups, and several different angles to clarify what is at first a complicated process. I hope after watching this video you have less broken strings, you never get poked by stray strings, and your strings will always stay in tone. Overall, I just hope you learned something!
