What's the trick to Acoustic fingerstyle guitar?
1) Use the right fingers. Using the right fingers is the most important part to Travis Picking (named after merle travis, not me.) This is what separates players who are doing it right and who sound right from everybody else.
2) The bass! Your thumb, whether you are using a pick or not, is the key to this sound. If the bass movement is steady and even, the rest will fall into place.
3) Practice it slowly. Don't worry about blazing speed. If you get your patterns down at a slow tempo, they will sound great when you go fast.
